WEST SIDE HIGHWAY There is considerable WPA money available for projects in Josephine county, the members of Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce were told last Monday at the chamber meeting. Deserving projects can still take advantage of the situation and get relief and constructive work done. The west side highway in the Illinois Valley is a county road that absolutely needs work done so that those living on the west side of the river can get in and out all through the year. This road will qualify for a WPA project and we CAN get this work done if the county court will spon sor the job. The valley feels the court should look in to the matter at once and take advantage of the as sistance WPA is willing to furnish. WPA money can only be used for labor, and that is about all that is necessary on the road at the present time. In the near future it should be given a coat of crushed rock and made a decent road for all year travel. ----------------- o----------------- THE MINERS’ PROBLEM of Josephine county to keep on the lookout for those metals. At absolute zero, which is -459°F or -273°C mat ter has neither weight nor volume. Think how easily a planet could pass out of existence in but a short period of time. During the total eclipse of the moon, July 15,1 1935 while the moon was under the earth's shadow, its tempera ture went down to -380°F which was within 79 of absolute zero. Should one of the great comets pass between the earth and the sun, which evidently has occurred some time in the earth’s history, which accounts for the ice age, if the duration of the shadow be sufficient the earth will pass into nebula, but would require only a short time to destroy all life, both animal and vegetable. And when the shadow passes, the sun would find nothing but inert waste to re- 1 build, although life would soon start in some amphibious form, which would probably evolute to the anthropoid, but which would be the first anthropomorphic ani- 1 mal next time, man or monkey, no one knows. --------------o------------- cense.
