Discouraged Politics Beginning To Get Hot Price 5 Cents I— Men Serve Applesauce To Ladies Assessment Moratorium Unsound Chamber Discusses Pamphlet _______ The political atmosphere of the county is beginning to sit up and take notice. Not much doing among the state candidates, but the county offices are coming in for considerable attention. So far the county judge and commissioner are the high lights of serious thought from the many candidates, six coming out, so far, for “his honor” the judge and five for commissioners. The county sheriff’s job seems to be a sure thing for the two candidates who have filed, for if no more candidates appeal’ on the horizon, both those now out for the job will receive their party nomination. Sheriff Barnes is on the republican ticket and Clar ence Coon is the democratic can didate. This is not so hot for the newspapers, for neither of them have any competition in the May primaries so far. But we can hope for more before the books close. Josephine county representa- ■ tive in the state legislature does not seem to be a popular place for republicans as none have sig nified their willingness to scrap it out with their democratic op ponents, Elwood Hussey and W. H. Miller are the only two who have filed and both are on the democratic ticket. For constable and justice of the peace in our own district no one has filed but we hear that some of the good citizen* of the valley are thinking of stepping out. Following is the list taken from the Courier Wednesday evening: County Judge— John L. Dougall, republican. A. L. French, republican. Stephen L. Jewell, democrat. W. A. Johnson, republican. W. C. I .ucore, democrat. Grant W. Matthews, republican. Commiuionei----- Howard T. Edson, republican. Richard McElligott, democrat. H. S. Morgan democrat. H. N. Parker, republican. C. B. Pritchett, democrat * Sheriff— A. Donley Barnes, republic« an. Clarence Coon, democrat. State Representative— Elwood Hussey, democrat. W. H.
