Illinois Valley News, Thursday. November 18, 1937 Celebration Planned (Continued from Page One) California. He said Judge Wallace had signified his full cooperation in such a celebration and would attend in person and deliver a talk on the subject. Several others were contacted by Mr. Brown and all were enthusiastic about the celebration, which has great pos sibilities. A committee of three, Mr. Brown as chairman, O. E. Jones and M. C. Athey was appointed to arrange details and the date wns placed as December 15th, the day that suited Judge Wallace, and plans are now in operation to hold the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the trail blazing More details of the celebration will be presented at the Chamber’s next meeting. Mr. Brown told the Grants Pass Rotary club and the Chamber of Commerce in joint meeting last Wednesday of the celebration and it received a big ovation. o— - - - ■ LETTERS (Continued from Page One) Oregon Traffic Deaths Don Morrison Gives Interesting “Ripley’s” “Believe It or Not,” the author will forfeit fifty dollars to anyone that can prove these statements and figures are not correct. At the North Pole all directions are south from that point. A shift ing of the earth in any direction would cause the Pole to move south. The earth is shifting. Alas ka is getting warmer. The Japan ese current strikes our western shore several hundred miles north of what it did since records were first kept This phenominal move ment of the earth has all science baffled for a solution although strange as it may seem the present geograhpic position of the pole is moving south. The rapidity of this movement is three minutes of a degree a year. This would amount to ninety degrees in 1,800 years. Which means that if the earth does counteract some irresistable force that will cause it to oscillate backwards, the geographical po sition of the present pole in that length of time would be in the present latitude of Panama, and the latitude of Panama would be at the South Pole. Although the earth will probably tip before it reaches a variation of ninety de grees and the equator will go to the poles, and the poles assume the position of the equator. This transposition of the earth’s axis has evidently taken place before. Sufficient proof of this fact is the equatorial animals found in the Arctic ice. Their flesh being in a perfect state of preservation, showing that the change took place in a very short pediod of time. Flesh of these equatorial animals animals taken from the arctic ice have been served as wholesome food after being in cold storage for thousands of years. The public at large in southern Oregon, know the town as Cave City, which was the name before we had a postoffice, and all cit izens in the southern part of the state know what you mean when you say Cave City. However, post office clerks in other parts of the state and other states, if they do not know where the city ’will look it up in their guide book and they will not find Cave City listed as a postoffice, but they will find Cave Junction. This will continue to be a con- traversy until, as you say, the city is incorporated, then the mat ter can be rectified. We do not be lieve this will be long, but in the mean time, every letter address pay 10c. The proceeds of which ed to citizens living in the place, will go to the P. T. A. fund. should have their letters address MRS. MAY HEARING. ed to Cave Junction, and keep out of difficulties. We are indeed sorry that you have been put to some disadvantage on the mixup of names. We recommend that Coming Attractions everyone use the name, Cave Junction, until we incorporate.
