Illinois Valley New«.Thursday, November 11. 1937 Library Books Now At Mining Exhibit Building Fire Department (Continued from Page One) I with subscriptions to put the fire department’s truck in operatiion. Following is a resume of the firemen’s meeting last Tuesday evening: Tuesday evening the members of the Volunteer Fire Department of Cave City, met in Chief Jones' theater to see the picture taken of the old Jacksonville fire pump of years ago, The picture was tak en during the fire chief's conven tion last summer. John A. Hays, assistant state fire marshal gave a splendid talk on fire protection and what we need right away. He assured those present that the fire marshal's office would do all with in its power to help us get started right, but said we should complete our truck just as soon as possible. Mr. Hays said there was a tank in Grants Pass of about 200 gal lons capacity and he was sure the tank could be bought for $20. He asked the business men to stand behind the department and get the truck in running order as it was useless now. Mr. Hays was asked several questions about water systems and how big a reservoir was needed which he answered and assured the department that the State Fire Marshal’s office was always ready to help. Mr. Hays inspected all buildings in the city Wednesday, to see if they were complying with the state fire regulations. Best Foods Company Likes Ads in News We were highly complimented recently by T. H. Wilcox, repre sentative of the Best Foods com pany for an advertisement that appeared in the News for Best Foods products in Schumacher’s Grocery store ad. Mr. Wilcox said their part of the ad was the best display they had received and he ordered six copies to be sent to the western office and then ordered six more to be sent to the national office in the east. ' We thank Best Foods for their interest in our behalf, and, while we believe we have one of the best weeklies in the state, it is certain ly gratifying to hear it from others. News Items From Play night is drawing closer and the various members in the casts of each play are working hard to prepare their respective plays for presentation. Students are using every spare moment for practice and there are some who handle their parts with ease already. However, practice will not cease until the night the plays are presented. It is generally believed that the plays will be presented in the high school gym Friday, Nov. 19. but will not be definitely known until after the teachers' meeting which is to be held Wednesday evening, Nov. 10. The main purpose of play night is to raise funds for the student body treasury, and students have been working very hard, staying after school and forfeiting study periods in order to practice theii parts in the plays. Because of their untiring efforts and their un selfish attitude toward this enter prise, it. is only fair that local people in this vicinity turn out in full force in order to show gen uine appreciation toward the stu dents. Come on. folks, the students will be grateful to you for coming. Last Monday Cass Wymore took his truck and with the help of Bill Rosenbaum drove to Elk Creek to E. L. Oppie's place and returned with the 200 volumes and book cases donated to the library by Mr. Oppie. The people of Cave City owe Mr. Oppie a deep debt of gratitude for this splendid donation. Any one who has books for which they have no use will find they can do a great good by turning them over to the library, where those who do not possess such books may have access to then» --------------o-------------- Bage Three Getrrge Darlin Cave» Highway 99*V»99199199»999999*91999999■99111999999999999991 9999999999V99*1999•»999999999999»91999999999999999199991199999999999999991 Come NOW, (Jet Your Share of these Bargains 0
