Usually when a fellow gets
hard-knock and has his ears slap
ped down with reverses, hi
friends quickly side-step him ami
let him stay down, and his only
recourse is to battle all the harder
to regain his lost assets.
Not so in Illinois Valley. When
one of our citizens gits knocked
down with revei < under condi
tions beyond his control, friends
of the valley come to the rescue
and do all in their power to help
make the come-back as easy as
possible and as quick as possible.
Women play their part in this
good work as well as men, and this
coming Saturday night, the Ladies
Auxiliary of the American Legion
are sponsoring a dance for the ben
efit of “Hi” Miller, who lost his
home, garage and machine shop
recently by fire.
A great crowd is expected to

attend this dance, and you
tertainment and at the same time
you are helping one of our lead
ing citizens regain his equilibrium,
so to speak, and help him
back to where he was before
aster befell him.
Even if you cannot attend
dance, send a dollar bill to
good ladies who are sponsoring the
dance. A dollar from each individ
ual does not hurt the fellow giv
ing, but when a few hundred of

Hrmistice Day
ineteen years ago Today, November 11 at 11 o’clock the guns were silenced and a war weary
world gave thanks to God that the fighting was over. Today we celebrate that Armistice. We
honor those boys who made the Supreme sacrifice that we might maintin our integrity
among all nations. We honor those gassed and wounded and all who helped make the “World
Safe for Democracy.” It is no fault of those who fought under the Starsand Stripes that the
world is in the mess it is today, so we gather together all over the land to honor and pay tribute
to those v.ho gave their all, to those who are disabled and to those who came back with a prayer
of thankfulness for Armistice Day.

Another good meeting of the
Illinois Valley Chamber of Com
merce was held Tuesday and sev
eral committees reported. F. L.
Brewer talked to Fred Galeno be
fore the meeting and Mr. Galeno
signed up for 20 horse power. Mr.
Brewer stated that they only need
about $143.00 more revenue to
build the power line and that
I
n third wire costing 20 cents per
pound would have to be placed I for
a distance of six miles.
Mr. Brewer said he would get
in touch with Medford at once and
let Mr. Balske know by phone
some time Wednesday what the
verdict was in regard to building
the line to O’Brien.
Mr. Brewer also stated that in
dications were favorable for build
ing the power line up the Caves
highway, at least as far as the
Villair and Anderson mill and
that they expect to have the line
to the Caves Chateau finished by

Dr. Brown moved that Mr.
Brewer be given a vote of thanks
for work done so far on the pow
er line. It was passed unanimously.
Mr. Miller reported progress for
bus transportation for school chil
dren, he stating there were 58 pu
pils who attend Kerby schools who
live two miles or further from the
school. Total miles one way is 4.23
and average distance 7.3 miles.
The average cost is $2.75
per
month. It was pointed out that
emergency funds of the school
district could be used and all nec
essary money above the amount
of the emergency fund would
hav«> to be furnished by the par
ents.
The secretary of the Chamber
was instructed to write the Med
ical association of Portland, San
Francisco and Los Angeles for the
names of doctors who were recom
mending goats milk as a remedy
for treating some form of human
ailments.
A. A. Johnson said he would
build cabins to accommodate con
valescents provided doctors would
send their patients here.
There was considerable discus-
cusion pertaining to a water sys
tem for the city but nothing de
finite was done.
