CHURCH NEWS
By the Paxtor
This is the time of year when Young America
waxes warm with enthusiasm and with firecrackers
and pop pistols, tries to show his interest in the cele
bration of a "Birth of a Nation.”
Ever since we can remember we have been doing
the same thing. Perhaps it is all right for us to re
member the 1th of July every year, for 1G1 years ago
we became a nation all of our own; it is quite proper
and fitting that we should celebrate this glorious1
event, but we should all try to impress the youngsters
that a too enthusiastic celebration often causes bodily
:njury and many times destructive fires to businesses
and homes.
We, personally, are not opposed to firecrackers
or other forms of noise making devices that help us
remember our national anniversary. But we do be
lieve children should !<■ schooled in the art of shoot
ing them off so as to prevent injury to themselves
and others. See that the children, and yes, the older
ones, demonstrate their enthusiasm in a clear place
where fire hazards do not exist, and then teach the
kids how to keep from being burned and injured.
Outside of that, “Let ’Er Buck,” as Pendleton
would say—Let us all remember that we are celebrat
ing the One Hundred and Sixty-First Anniversary

We respectfully request the Highway CorrivAission
to give a look at the highway in Cave City. Just a
little oil on the right-of-way in this city would make
a lot of difference to t’t>e residents. This also applies
to Kerby, Selma and O'Brian.
