Ref erendum and initiative petitions to kill the Webb anti-alien land law fathered by Governor Johnson and to substitute therefor an anti-alien law which will absolutely exclude from agricultural pursuits in California all aliens ineligible to citizenship will be in circulation throughout the state within 10 days. This announcement was made here today by Secretary E. O. Yoelle of the California Asiatic Exclusion league, after an all-night session of the league in which O. A. Tveltinoe, Its president, Its executive officers and a special committee carefully went over a number of forma of ref erendum petitions to attack the Webb law and also worked on the draft of an initiative bill which Is de signed to effectually exclude the "un desirable alien." All petitions for the referendum and forms of the proposed initiative have been submitted to a number of attorneys and extreme care Is being taken that both the Instruments shall absolutely conform to the state con stitution so there shall be no chance of their being Invalidated after paa sage, Yoelle announced that the stand of the league for absolute exclusion of aliens from agricultural occupations In the state has already been received with acclamation. Gay lord McDanlel was found guilty of second degree murder here today on a charge of having shot and killed his stepfather, Herman Hoch, on the latter's ranch near here some months ago, Mrs. Herman Hoch, who was paced on trial with her son on the situe charge, was acquitted. The steamer Sonoma Is due to arrive tomorrow with 192,000 pounds of Australian meat. F. E. Iu the published list, in which practically every state In (he Uulon Is represented, it Is pointed out that even In the largest and most progressive cities the public authorities have much work to do to protect school children from the dangers of fire and panic. And this notwithstanding the fact that fre quent Inspections have been made or are being made and improvements continually ordered by those In au thority An analysis of conditions surround ing schoolhouse construction In the i United Stutes and Canada, combined with a scrutiny of a list of school fires published In Insurance Engineering, covering the years 1911 and 1912 and two mouths and a half of the present year. Every state In the Union and many Canadian provinces are included in the Investigation, which comprises nearly 400 cities. The conclusion reached is that most of the 20.000.000 school children and students In the roll of cities enumerated are in con stant peril from tire and panic because of the fact that they are housed In buildings that are tire traps Within the period und area covered the estimated average tire loss per school fire in placed at $25,000. Comley, la today in full pos session of her hearing following a dental operation in which she had two troublesome teeth removed. The first intimation that Miss Comley'a decayed teeth were responsible for her affliction was several hours after her visit to the dentist when she was overjoyed to find that she could hear perfectly. Harris, formerly n druggist in Rogue River, Or., Is under two indictments by the federal grand jury today, one of which charges him with conceding assets after he had gone into bank ruptcy and the other charging him with swearing falsely that all his as sets were turned over to the trustee. The assets alleged to have been concealed consists of drugs and a phonograph with several hundred records. PORTI.VNl). Mav 22. Frank W. Harris of Rogue River. THREATENS TO DYNAMITE P.RIIMil S. ROSEUL'RGr, May 20. Receiving Information from Eugene some time ago to the effect that members of the I. W. V. were alleged to be planning to blow up a bridge on the Southern Pacific on May 19, the Southern Pa cific officials maintained an armed guard at every railway bridge and trestle between Portland and Ash land last night and all engineers were instructed to run slowly over every bridge.
