WKKKLT ROGUE RIVKK COURIEH XEF.O OF PROPER FLOW SHEET IN SAVING GOLD. 1 Hinh u.i, . .j county superintendent of Josephine Adolph Maier, metallurgist and!rmintv . ... , 1 " UU u lUD I v K mar nil LU 1 II- mining engineer, returned Saturday,... . . . , . . ....... . ' i atlon for applicants for state and from an extended trip through north em California, taking in Siskiyou, Trinity and Shasta counties, exam ining the Midas mine, the Victor and the Columbia, respectively, and re porting upon the metallurgical prob lems of making the highest extrac tion. Speaking of his trip Mr. Maier said: "While the mills already Installed are of modern construction, they lack the proper flow-sheet, and in some instances they are eliminating cyanldation, to be superseded by hydro-electro chlorlnatlon, followed by concentration and classification system, using Monell slimers to save the values in the slimes. This sys tem is in use at the Michigan mine near Grants Pass. "What Is needed worse than any thing else in this and California counties is the proper flow-sheet in the mills, as there are no two orea that require the same flow-sheet, and the ores should be tested by a com petent metallurgist before the owner goes to the expense of erecting a mill that may prove a failure after it is Installed, not being adapted to the character of the ore. "In one instance while on my trip I was asked, or rather questioned, 'if the cyanide process does not save the values In our ores what In the name of common sense will save them?' In other words, It seems that the cya nide treatment is the last resort for the mine owner and miner, but it should not be from a metallurgical standpoint."
