George Alexander has been re-elected mayor of Los Angeles, being swept into of fice by a landslide which gave him a plurality exceeding 35,000 and car ried with him every other person on the ticket endorsed by the business interests of the city, the damaged machines of both big.polltlcal parties and the so-called Good Government forces. The soclallBt-labor union leaders admit their utter rout and positively insist that the real reason was the eleventh hour developments of the McNamara murder trials. The fact that Job Harrlman was one of the labor men's attorneys cost him the votes of thousands of union men and women here, who blamed him for not publicly repudiating the McNa- maras as soon as he found they were guilty. , The vote was the largest In the history of the city. It was the first time in the history of California that the women were permitted to vote at a municipal election lu a large city, and they voted almost solidly against Harrlman and his associates. The Alexander forces vIll have complete control of the city for the next two years, having elected every councilman and member of the edu cational board. Prohibition was snowed under, the suggestion that the city go dry hav ing been overwhelmingly defeated by a ratio of about 4 to 1. Despite the fact that the McNa mara brothers are In cells in the county, Jail waiting transfer to San Quentln for their admitted crimes of dynamiting, Los Angeles is more in terested, and even more excited, than at any time since the Times was blown up. The sweeping victory scored at yesterday's election by the united forces of the old line political par ties, the liquor Interests, and the so called good government Interests over the united socialist-labor union candidates has accentuated the feel ing that the result was a bargain, pure and simple, the McNamaraB be- DEPOSE CHINESE RULER.
