Sir: Whenever a man is made up largely of animal instinct and im pulse and is governed accordingly, and It crops out In almost his every act, If one looks him over It will be st'on that he Is slightly "snouty:" something like the Ingredients of the j musical instrument called the "swin ette." We were all specially Invited up to the dam to partake of George Sand ers' big-hearted hospitality. Sand withes, eggs, pie, iced-tea and even ilars; all of our hearts should have lecn, and most ail of them were, touched by this outburst of generous good feeling for his fellow men, and everybody whose soul was in the right place responded by serving come other excursionist kindly. One man evidently fearing that he might get left heaped his plate with two pieces of pie, two ham sand wiches, two boiled eggs, two pieces of theose, two cakes, etc. The wife said "I." hilt wtion ha nnr In twn .... ., ,, ,t Shifts eating all Ci this, and the timid ' w jr-w " wlfe wan came her seen nearby eating what way, It wag plain that at least one special guoet was not mov ed by the fraternal feeling so manl lest on every side. On the crowded cars, returning to Ihe city were several ladles who were compelled to crowd with the men In the aisles of the cars for a standing position, while as many able-bodied men took care to enjoy their full n rasure of the day's generosity carfare and all "free; but they surely wr.uld not yield up their comfortable sonts to any lady for a 15-minutes homeward. The lat est petitlou of residents of that street, presented to the city council at a re- ('ent meeting, asking that bltulithic be used, was last night referred back by the council to the petitioners. Higglns the option papers which the three former have held on the Golden Dream quartz property owned by Hlgslns In the Chetco district and on which the sensational, gold Btrlke was made by two leasers, C. M. Gage and G. S. Ross. Mr. Logan also turned over to Mr. Higglns the gold brick weighing $703 which Logan recently melted down from the labor of one man for 80 hours. "We positively could not In 30 day? learn enough of the property to buy it at the price asked. The purchase price was to be $51,000, 5 per cent royalty for 25 years, and the first payment to be $15,000 In 30 days. The 30 days will be up June 18, Just 4 6 hours hence. We turned over everything to Iligglns and will not buy the property. "I wish we could have had longer time than 30 days, but this Hlgglns would not grant. I proposed to him that If he would give us a 90-day op tion, which would allow sufficient time to prospect the property to some extent, that we woujd pay the pur chase price of $50,000 spot cash, pro vided we took the mine. The present option called for pnyments running through longer time. Mr. Hlggins, however, refused to trade on this basis. aAsked whether Hlgglns will work the properly, Logan replied that ho did not know. A third centlemflr. present said he undertood that Ilig glns states that a largo lodge, stand ing high out of the ground, Is a por tion of the property and that the ore in Mght will amount to a large ton nage In the aggregate and consequent ly return a lnr sum of money. Nothing Is known of the matter, though It Is possible that Dr. J. F. lia'dy of Medford, will open negoti ations for the claim. IIo refused to u;- $25,000 to Iogan and Schmitt liothers for their option, which would mnko the total purchaso prlco to I im $75,000. Mr. Logan this morning stated that i hat particular region was one of Mir.eral rb hne.. IIo also stated thpt he would leave within a fow days for Kern conty, California, to look after oil Interests, and would return to Kirants Pant In August. VERSATILE .MAY KOUSOX AT OPEHA HOUSE At Manager Fuson'a Cranta Pass opera bouse last night, Miss May Rob son, perhaps the most versatile of American actresses, and one of the n.ost charming, presented, before a largA and enthusiastic audience. "The comedy Indeed It Is nearer to pure farce In three acts, "The Rejuvena tion of Aunt Mary," by Anne War ner. As almost everyone nas read the btory of which the play Is a dramat ization, it is necessary to give only a brief outline thereof.. Aunt Mary Watkins la a New Eng land spinster, who, wailinj, waiting, as the shadows longer grow, for the ver that never returned, has not al lowed dourness to permeate her char acter nor mar life's Incompleteness. Sho centers her affections and lavish es her generosity on her young nephew, "Denham Jack," whose many escapades at college furnish most of the excuse for a plot to the comedy, if, Indeed, there Is a plot beyond one of the threadbare variety. Nephew Jack comes out all right In the end, fulls In love with his friend's sister, Hetty Burnett, whom Aunt Mary met t'.t the former's New York home, tiet- donnlng the habiliments of a serv ing maid to Aunt Mary durilg the lat- ter's visit to the metropolis. It Is during this visit depicted In the second act that tho comedy touches a high, rollicking, uproariously happy place. Miss Ilobson's voice, always hor Kit'ry, work and the years have scarco- y encroached upon. That she Is more i 'i i. nl ut i lie pantomimic require ments of the part goes without say ing,, and In the tender scenes of the remedy, her reading of her lines t akes the eyes moisten and the throat thicken. The supporting company, If not ent, Is ndequate. Jack Story ns the nephew, looked like Mike Donlin, held his head like a drum major,' spoke his lines with e utmost intelligence and ease, and interpolated some Bongs to his own accompaniment agreeably. Paul Deck- e"-, Arthur Deerlng and John Mc Muhon were satisfactory In the roles of "Jack's" college chums, especially Mr. Decker as "Mitchell." Lotta Wake as Mrs. Daisy Mullens, made much out of a very small part. but the honors of the performance, liio blur excepted, belong easily to Kayo Cuslck, a rnvlshln:;ly beautiful ;;i ! Willi dulcet times of voctu velvet a a, score of pretty maiiiieiisms, who, as "Fanny Burnett," soared around the stage like a golden swal low, potential to Invigorate, enthrall and heal. Even the gray-hn!red fel- vr were enslaved by her. Come on you Ferris Hartman. tRFAKS MILK HKCOltl) IN RKXTZ M U HIM MILWAUKEE, June 21.
