H. Blake, who purchased the Hotel Josephine In August, was ques tioned last nlgh,t with reference to the reconstruction of his popular hostelry and it was learned that numerous changes will be made, giv ing Grants Pass a first-class hotel ' building, up to date in all details. After exhibiting plans and blue print's Bhowlng tho building as it will bo when completed, Mr, Blake said: 'I Intend making the Josephine building an up-to-date structure In every detail. I bought tho building with that in view and as soon as ar rangements ran be perfected we will carry out the plans as shown ln this blue print, which was gotten out by" Clark & Foster, of Medford and Ashland, and they will have super vision of the work of construction when we get that far. I own the 25 feet on the north side of the pres ent building, fronting on Sixth, and will build on this lot an addition which will be the full length 'of the lot and as high as the pr.Ment build ing. The lower floor will be rented as a real estate office end barber shop, having a modern plate glass front. Above, on the other two floors, there will be eight guest rooms. As remodeled the lobby will be 29 by 50 feet by taking ln a part of the room now used by the bar ber shop. The dining room will be eight feet longer and the full width of the building, 28 by 40. When finished the Josephine will have 48 guest rooms, 14 private baths and two public baths. The upper part of the building will be eutlrely re arranged, the rooms mads larger, the halls widened and more light ar ranged for. I am rewiring the build ing throughout, putting in a new sys tem of bells and lights. It will be steam heated, with hot and cold water in every room and porcelain lavatories. The exterior work on the new part will of necessity be red pressed brick, to conform , with Ihe present structure. As yet the con tract for the work has not been let, but I expect that It will not be long now before things are moving along." "I am delighted with our new sur roundings and the climate especially. I am an Oregonlan from way back, having come here from the toeit country, but 1 never expect to find more beautiful climate than this or a town with a better future. This Is 1ouiid to be a good town aud all .food towns are good for a hotel man, provided, of course, that the holi ness Is not way over done. We have come to stay and I believe that you will find that when we have gotten through with the Josephine It wilt be found to be an up-to-date hotel building In every way and In keeping with the spirit of progrotslon that seems to dominate Greats Pass at Ibe prtssnt time.
