When the waters of Rogue
are used for Irrigation
of North Rogue River valley, the water rights owned and
controlled by the Golden Drift Mining company are an
absolute necessity.
These water rights are not in any way involved in any
litigation. The Golden Drift litigation is a suit of the
stockholders for an accounting with the Ament family,
and involves the ownership of certain stocks and bonds,
but does not in any way involve the water rights.
The Golden Drift plant and pump is the only way
available for putting the water on the lands this year.
The Plaintiffs (in the Golden Drift suit for an ac
counting), are now repairing the dam and power plant
so that the Receiver will be in a position to carry out the
contract with the Josephine County Irrigation and
Power company and put the water in the ditches before
June 1st, 1911. It should be known that this can be done
by the Receiver the same as though the Golden Drift
had a full set of managing officers.
The Golden Drift project is the largest single invest
ment of capital around Grants Pass except the Southern
Pacific railroad. This money was nearly all furnished by
people who are now the stockholders of the Cliicago
Rogue River company, and was in a large measure ex
pended with Grants Pass merchants and gave employ
ment to many people.
Prior to June, 1st, 1911, the plaintiffs of the Golden
Drift will expend with your merchants, and for labor,
large sums of money. Since December 1st, 1910, we have
given employment to an average of more than 20 men. and
put into circulation in Grants Pass about $7000.00. By
June 1st it should amount to $50,000.00.
When we buy hardware, we buy from the hardware
dealers and when we buy meat, it is from the butcher.
When the people want water they should go to people who
have the water to sell, and facilities for pumping it.
The Golden Drift owns the first right to all the water
in Rogue River during the low or irrigation season.

RIGHTS. Water filings on the waters of Rogue River at
this late day are subject tp all existing water and power
rights. The Golden Drift has fully complied with the laws
pertaining to appropriation and use and have full fledged
water rights for power, for irrigation, as well as mining.
These rights are the result of a large investment of
money by the stockholders.
The indorsement of the Golden Drift as an irrigation
project by the local business men and other citizens in
fluenced the investment to a large extent, and we pro
pose to now make the best use of the property as an irri
gation project.
It is for this reason that we arc investing more money
at this time, and it is for the same reason we want to see
the ditches extended.
We should be given the irrigation business for the
reason that the Golden Drift owns the water, dam and
power plant and we will furnish all the money needed
to extend the ditches as fast as needed and will do it now
just as our money is now being expended on the plant so
it will be ready for this season's irrigation.
A good crop this year, and having fruit trees one year
along is an object to us. It means more business and
more money for everybody. It means that every farmer
will ct an increased price for his land, should he want
to sell it.
