Grants Pass-Ashland Motor Car
The above is a picture of tlie new Motor Car of
the Southern Pacific which will run between Grants
Pass and Ashland to handle local business.
The car is 55 feet long, built of steel throughout,
practically indestructible and capable of acquiring
a speed of (JO miles an hour. It is equipped with a
battery of six gasoline motors, generating 250 horse
power and weighs (50,000 pounds.
The car has passenger and smoking compart
ments, and will seat comfortably about (H) people.
The windows are air t ight, rain proof and dust proof,
and by a new method of ventilation fresh, juire air
can be circulated through the entire ear in four min
utes. In cold weather the car is heated by pipes
carving hot water through the entire length of the
ear"
The new service goes into effect Monday, March
28, and undoubtedly will prove a great convenience to
the traveling public in the district served.
The ear will be operated on the following schedule
between terminals, but will stop at all intermediate
points:
Lv, Grants Pass 7:30 am. Ar. Ashland 9:30 a.m.
Lv. Ashland 1:30 p.m. Ar. Grants Pass 3:30 p.m.

SOCIAL EVENTS
The Y. P. S. C. E. of the Christian
church will give a necktie social at
the Endeavor rooms of the church
on Monday evening. Each lady will
be required to take a lunch box and
wear a necktie or ribbon with a piece
of the same In the box whereby the
gentleman purchasing the box may
determine his partner by matching
neckties. The young people are
counting on a big time and lots of
fun, something doing all the evening,
no time to kill, but a rollicking, Jolly
evening from start to finish.
On Monday evening of this week
a number of the friends of Mr. and
Mrs. T. W. Williams were entertain
ed In a most pleasing manner at the
Williams' home on Seventh and B
strets. The guests were delightfully
entertained at five hundred up to a
late hour, when the prizes 'were
awarded to the deserving ones and
delicate refreshments were served
to the guests. Aside from the prin
cipal game of the evening, some very
enjoyable musical selections were
rendered by different members of
the party, and the evening was all
that could be desired In the social
line. The guest3 were Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. A. D. Eckhart, of Redfields,
S. D., was the guest of honor at a
charming social function given at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. O. II. Carner
on Thursday evening. The principal
form of amusement prepared for the
guests was five hundred, and this
Interesting game was Indulged in for
several hours with very pleasing re
sults, after which prizes were award
ed and dainty refreshments served.
The guests then departed for home,
having spent an exceptionally pleas
ant evening In the social reunion
afforded by their charming hostess.
