FIGHT ON DA LUNGER. According to a Washington special Louis R. Glavls is making both new And old charges against Secretary Balllnger. These statements are said to be of the most convincing character and will, It Is thought, in jure President Taft's administration unless he asks for the resignation of the secretary. It Is generally ad mitted in Washington that a con gressional Investigation is a certain ty. Tho friends of the administra tion are getting tired of the Bal llnger business nnd they are disposed to mako quick work of It and get rid of the scandal on the cabinet. They are not disposed to await, a long drawn out congressional In quiry, if only half of tho charges are true It will, by long odds, bo the worst scandal on any national admin istration for n quarter of a century. People generally begin to believe that whero there is so much smoke there must be some fire. Collier's Weekly publishes the charges In full this week. It may be that Secretary Balllnger is a much abused man and that the president Is Justified In the confid ence he reposes In him, but the peo ple do not feel so confident, nnd it will take something more than the Scotch verdict of "not proven" to convlnco them. The facts are that In some way Mr. Balllnger at one time brushed up against some very questlonnblo people and, while It may be true- that he Is really Inno cent of any wrong doing, he will be under tho necessity of proving It to the satisfaction of the American peo ple. Should he resign now, It. will be taken ns nn evidence of guilt, and If ho does not resign his enemies will continue to harass him. The Gold Beach Globe wants the Curry County Development League to boost for the building of an elec tric road up the Chetco to connect with the Soutnern Pacific; a wagon road up Rogue river; a breakwater at the great natural harbor at Port Orford; a railroad from Bandon; the Improvement of the mouth of Rogue river to admit of larger vessels com ing into the harbor, or the building of more roads and the improvement of what they have. Tho people of Josephine county have a neighborly Interest In Curry county and the Grants Pass Commer cial Club has already taken the mat ter up and will use every possible means to bring about the develop ment of the lower country.
