Statement by Mr. MacMurrajr.
To my friends and the public of
Grants Pass, Oregon: I desire to say
that I have returned to Grants Pass
for the purpose of making It my per
manent home and with that object
In view I feel that some words of ex
planation of my past life and charac
ter are due In reply to the articles
published concerning me In the Port
land and local papers.
I own my little home in this city
and have enjoyed more happiness
and quiet peace here than any other
place I have been. I realize that my
life in the past will confront me any
where that I may go and I desire to
live it down honestly and bravely
here In my own home where the facts
are known and, I trust, forgiven.
The reports of my life as set forth
by saiit papers are substantially cor
rect, but in my embarrassment and
humiliation and dtasire to shield my
self as far as possible, I have not
seen fit heretofore to acknowledge
the truth of the same. However, I
have long ago paid the penalty for
my misdeeds and for the past two
years have tried to lead an exempl
ary life and one absolutely free from
the slightest reproach. Since com
ing to Grants Pass I have ever acted
the part of a gentleman In my rela
tions with my pupils as well as the
people of Grants Pass and propose
that my continued life here shall be
clean and upright in all regards.
While not expecting that I shall
be "lionized" by the people of Grants
Pass, as one of our Portland corres
pondents has expressed it, I do,
nevertheless, most sincerely desire
the friendship and earnest help of
my fellow townsmen in the leading
of an upright and honest life. I have
again resumed my teaching of vocal
music In this city at my studio ovei
Hall's Art store, where I shall be
glad to meet my old pupils and
others who may desire to receive
vocal Instruction.
