LAND BM ERS APPEAR IN FEDERAL COURT Second Suit Against lUilroud and I'tireluiM-rs of Jjtnd Drought Into Court. i Forty-six purchasers of granted i lands from the Oregon & California Railroad company made their formal appearance in the United State fed eral court In Portland on Monday. This Is the second suit brought by the government to secure a for feiture to all lands In Oregon grant ed to the Harrlnian railroads by congress In J SC6. The first suit was brought directly against the rail roads, now holding some 2,000,000 acres of unsold lands. This second suit Is brought against the railroads and the purchaser, a number of whom are well-known local people. Some 300,000 acres of land have been sold, and the first motion made In the suit is to compel the railroad to deposit with the court all the money received for this land. The second effort Is to cause the title to the different parcels of land to re vert from the purchaser to the rail road company. This causes the land which has been sold to become again a part of the original grant which the government demands shall be forfeited.
