McGREW, PIONEER TRUCK and DELIVEHV lure and I'lano GRANTS PASS, OREtOrt. Woman's Relief Corps, Gen. Logan Woman's Relief Corps No. 25, held their regular .emu monthly meeting In their hall on Front street Saturday afternoon, February 13, President Mrs. Ella Howard In the chair. The officers and a large number of members were present ready for the work of the year, a large amount of general work has been done in the Interest of the corps, and much locil relief given. As Is usual after the business meeting, an Interesting literary hour was spent In reminiscences, and readings commemorating the life and death of our beloved and martyred president, Abraham Lin coin. We are glad to note that the ma uuruy or our U. A. R. posts held special and appropriate entertain ments the 12th of February. While in Portland, It was the writers privilege to be present at the election of officers for the pres ent year at George Wright W. R. C and later at the joint installation of this corps and George Wright G. A. R., No. 1, in the G. A. R. hall at Second and Morrison streets. This post and corps are the largest in Oregon. The large, beautifully dec orated hall was filled with the Civil War veterans of "61, and their only officially recognized auxiliary, the Woman's Relief Corps. Few things in our national his tory are more interesting than to see the gathering of soldiers who more than 40 years ago gave up everything that life held dear to save the dividing of a land, and It seems the ties formed under such trying circumstances intensify as these brave men approach the evening of their lives. Many and varied were the inci dents related that evening by the G. A. R. and their visiting members regarding the faithful and loyal work of the Women's Relief Corps. Every post and corps in Oregon should thank Representative Camp bell for his manly defense of the bill In behalf of the G. A. R. Soldiers' Home at Roseburg, which came near being defeated but has since become a law. In its defense, he said in part: "It was presented by me at the request of the members of the Grand Army, and I desire to say very plainly that in killing this bill you have not Inflicted any punishment on me, but you have punished the mem bers of the G. A. R., who fought for four years that the Stars and Stripes might hang from the walls of this room and that this state might ex ist." The members of the first board of control are: B. F. Pike, C. A. Williams and T. E. Hills. In the death of Mrs. Belle Berger at The Dalles, Oregon, passed away one of the few remaining Civil War army nurses. In the decease of the late Mrs. Nellie Mott, a charter member of Gen. Logan W. R. C, the corps has lost one of its old-time members, who, when In health, was one of Its roost active and efficient workers, VEIY riiNt LIABLE INFORMATION I for the Buyers of THNG MACHINES JALITIE.4 to consider in MAKING A FURCBASC s I it run easy. it leoK good. it ma&o a good stitch -n It sow fast. well mad.
