starting point was Portland, Maine
June 1, 1908 and he must be back

by selling souvenirs. When he Is
through with the trip he expects to
write a book.
To provide against accidents be
fore starting out he took out an in

shoes needed repairing. Secre
tary Andrews interviewed him on
behalf of the town and said: "Co
lonial Jack" has walked all the way
from Portland, Maine, on the dou
ble trot to reach Grants Pass In time
