to enlarge their orchards. R. F.
Lewman Intends to put out 25
acres of peaches and a considerable
number of Tokay grapes, increas
ing the size of his orchard and
vineyard to 60 acres.
Will Fields of Provolt left for
Grants Pass . Saturday where he
will work on the new steel bridge
across -Rogue River. This structure
Is much needed to accommodate the
traffic from the Applegate Valley
and other sections south of the city.
When this handsome new bridge is
completed apd the roads fixed up so
as to make travelling reasonably
comfortable, residents of the outly
ing districts will be glad to vlBlt
town oftener, and perhaps buy more
goods there. When the Williams
and Murphy roads are straightened
and Improved the Provolt farmers
will save a distance of from three
and a half to four miles on the trip
to Grants Pass.
Frank Bailey will soon have his
building completed on the Williams

John McAllister of Applegate,
passed through Saturday enroute to
the county seat with a load of fine
beef which he readily disposed of

George Matney of Provolt was at
Chaney Creek this week and while
there purchased a fine work horse
from Richard Lindsay. Mr. Matney
returned Sunday.
Everett Lewman of Provolt went
to Grants Pass Sunday to have his
knee operated on. While out hunt
ing last September he had the mis
fortune to run a knife blade In his
right knee. The wound was both
dangerous and painful and has given
him much trouble ever since. He
still walks with crutches but hopes
to bo able to discard them at an
early date,

A school census is being taken in
this district, and from present ap
pearances will show a large increase
over last year.
Many of the Frultdale homes en
tertained guests at Thanksgiving
dinner, though not a few of our peo
ple Journeyed to the city to enjoy
the day with friends and relatives.
Alonzo Jones and family spent the
day with Mr. aud Mrs. Jones, Sr., in
