Provolt, after whom the central valley was named. He had been spending several dsys in Qrants Pass looking after legal affairs. Lewmau on the Applegate, a 12 acre Tokay vineyard was also greatly damaged by having the leaves eaten off. The rain of the last 10 days have b en the hardest keen in thia valley in October for many year. The Ap plegate rained from ankle deep to a point where it is past fording. How ever it was weloiue as it enabled the farmers to begin plowing and soon the grain will be put in. Window glasi at Hair-Riddles. The Mayuey Bros, are making pre parations to dig op the 26 acres hop yard belonging to Sum Provolt, the latter having decidtd to have It put to grain. The hops were put in 13 years ago and before that grain was raised on the land. The Bridge Point Ditch Company held their annual meeting this week. The books were audited and the same o Ulcers reelected for another year, with one exception. George Duulap was elected director. BEAUTIFUL PAINTING OF GRANTS PASS There is on exhibition at Hall, a Art Store a large oil paiuting, by Prof. George O'Brieu, of the city of Grants Pass 42x70 inches, which is being greatly admired by those Interested in our city and in matters of art. The painting is a fine work of art and represents the city exactly as it ap pears today from a point ou the heights northeast of town at an eleva tion of about 600 feet above tbe river two and one-half miles distant f.om tbe center of the business section, and looking southwest The picture is beautiful In Its ooloring, represent ing the morning effect of light after a summer shower, a few light clouds still in view as they are passing away toward the east As a conse quence the atmosphere is very clear and mountain tops 45 miles away can be plaiDlv seen. Tbe view memoes ail of the city, showing the box factory ou the east and reservoir hill on the west and a long stretch of vallev land bevoud. The sky in the paiuting is one of tne most interesting feature, tho oobrs having been laid in with a palette knife giving the utmost brilliance of effect. Many who have seen this work of art have expressed the opinion that it should be in the possesion of the Commercial Club. The fainting was marie by Prof. George O'Brieu of this city.
