I J. P. Wagner of Forest Grove, who
is on the circulation staff of the Port
land Oregon lag, wa looking after the
interests of that paper here the first
of the week.
Win. Crow, one of the old pioneers
down near Hell Gate, below Merlin,
wss in the county seat Tuesday. Mr.
Crow has been in this section of
Oregon for the pa't 60 years. He is
now engaged in farming near Meriln.
Mrs. H. M. Green left this week
for her former home in Missouri,
where she will visit her parents and
other relatives. Mrs. Green wa for
merly postmistress at Provolt.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Blading, and
the latter' mother, Mrs. Blown, of
Olympia, Wash., are in the citv
visiting friends and at the same time
looking op a location for a perma
nent home.
Postmaster Donnell and Mrs. Don
nell returned home Monday from
Portland. They went from here to
Riddle last Ihorsday, stopped at
Roseburg Friday and speut Saturday
and Sunday in Portland.
Mrs. Ollie Whitney arrived in the
city from Portlnad Wednesday morn
ing and she and her father, S. W.
Phillips who came here a few weeks
ago, are now located on I street. Mrs.
Phillips who is still in Portland, will
ha hora hi soon as school closes. It is
Mr. Phillips' plan to erect a nne
family residence here during the year.
A. W. Silsby, formerly of this citv

Harry Smith, who was vioe-president

Grant Pass lodge will furnish a
room.
A telegraphlo message reoeived by
relatives here last night, stated that
Mr. Smith had been elected president
of the assembly, which fact was
learned with pleasure by ber numer
ous friends. Mis. Smith is a decided
ly carable woman for the place and

ing. Several very interesting con
tests were engaged in during the
evening which were greatly enjoyed
by all. A dainty lunch was served
and while pasting the strawberries,
Mrs. Bateham told an interesting
story of an event which happened at
Hood River jost 11 years ago. All
present enjoyed a deligtful evening
and wish Mr. and Mrs. Bateham many
happy returns of the day
Last Sunday after school Rev. Louhg
ridge of Grants Pass preached. At
the close of his sermon ho gave a few
miuutes talk on temperance which
was enjoyed by all. The Fruitdale
people are in sympathy with the tem
perance movement.

exercises at the school house. All
parents and friends are invited to be
present. Picnic dinner under the

The Rogue River has risen abont
two feet within the past week as a
result of the recent raius.
The thirty-aiith annual reunion of
the Oregon Pioneer association will be
held at Portland Thursday, June
