Miller, et al., "Llna"Noi. 1, 3 and 8," all ex tensions of the Bidden Treasure group, and located in tbe Galioe dis trict; Chas. Buck, "Wiaoomin," on Graves Creek, in th. Galice district ; Jai. H. Sanford, "Badger," on Rom Creek, in Ualice district; "Boston," by J. H. Thompson, on Rum Creek, in Galioe district; "Orifeno," by J. H. Thompson, on Rum Creek, in Galice diitrict; "Ethel," by E. O. Lowry, on Rum Creek, in Galioe din- triotj "Jessie," by E. G. Lowry, on Ram Creek, in Galioe distriot; Chinook," by Martha Clanton, in Galice disrtict; J. H. Daley and seven other persona have located eight, placer claims on Briggs Creek, where tbey have also taken up 1000 miners iochee of water; Eva Lay ton files a notioe of lien for 08 days of work and labor at tl per day, claiming that the owners of tbe "Yellow Jacket" mine still owed her 43.25 and Lee Martin files a similar lien alleging that he worked 65 days, at $3.60 per ay and that there still remains due him the snm of $163.00. Thos J. Brinokerhoff, of the Galice d is tret thinks that he has a "crow to piok" with A. B. Cornell, the well known Grants Pass citizen, who, in writing np that promising locality, inadvertently overlooked Mr. Brino- kerhoff's fins properties. He thinks that he has the latest notable strike in that district, for be has four feet of azurite ore, at a depth of 45 feet and be has tbe vein opened np for a distance of 500 feet and the vein is over five feet wide, on an average. He hasn't bad any assays made, as yet, but his teats show over six per oeot. copper and quite high In gold. He expect. Mr. Cornell to call opoo bim, tbe next time he oomes to that oamp and then he can see things for' himself and be conrinoed that he has one of the finest properties to be fonnd anywhere. Ihs owners of the "Blackhawk" mine in the Galice district are feeling pretty goodsover the way things are turning out in respect to their rich properties. They have three . fine claims and one of the owners W. L. Montgomery, who has jnst been in the city on a business trip, informs the Courier that the assays made give a showing of six per cent of fine Copper. They have quite a ledge o it and propose running a tnonel and oroes cot the vein. They have an offer to bond the property in the sum of f 35,000, bot are really not so very anxious to let it go, as it has every appearance of 'lining a very good thing. C. L. Barlow, the Galice merchant was at the county seat a few days ago and he briuga some good news regarding that iniuing district. He telle of the " Al: meda" shipping large quantities of ore to the Tacouia smelter, .while the "Gold Finch," people are patting on a larger force of men, getting ready for the winter's run. R. E. Doane, manager of the "Gold Finch" made a business trip to that promiKiDg property the past week. L. E. Crouch, attorney for the Alameda Consolidated Mines Co., has been np from Portland, on Important business connected with the mines. F J. Barlow has returned to his h-me at Belllnghaui, Wash., after having made bia sons at Galice a visit of several weeks. S. A. Sharkey, a prom I unit mining promoter of Portland has been "rounding op" the mines in thia camp and is greatly pleased with what he has found. J. W. Mclntrye, the transportation man thiuks that he has a mighty good thing in the "Missouri Bar, "mine, located out on Whiskey Creek. He built a big ditch two years sgo, hut was unable to operate tbe same last season, owiog to a press of business matters elsewhere. This winter he will be in readivess to carry on the work nicely, having just placed the pipe and joint and he anticipates a good mo. Edward Friday has given John F. Saunders an agrsement to sell his un divided interest in tbe following claims, oo or before March 0, 1008: "Star," "Blue Earth," "45," "Golden Crown," "Chief." "Golden Fleece." "Ophir." "HomesUke," "Elkhorn," "Hadley," "Esmeralda," and "Ready Cash." County Commissioner J. T. Logan has time to operate very promising placer property, ont on bis, Waldo place and in order to care for the men who will work there this winter, be Is jost now busily engaged building a comfortable two story bouse where they will have quarters for tbe com- MINING MEN DECLARE WE'RE IN THE BELT They Hsxvo It Finrd Out That Thl. District i. Going to B Wourvderfully Developed. ' Slowly but very an rely the fact li beginning to dawn upon tbe mining world of this country that right bete in the Rogue River Valley is one of the most promising fields for fo- tore development to be fonnd any where. Evidences of this assertion are coming to light very frequently these days and it is ' no uncommon thing to find that the wealthy luioiog syndicates from outside districts have their representatives here making observstlous and getting hold of valuable claims. Invariably they re turn ery favorably impressed with the many promising properties which they discover in this region. During the past week Grants Pass had as its goest a man who bas been quite closely identified with the milling movement in Alaska and wbo has just come from prolonged so journ in the famous mining camps hich surround Goldfield Nevada. Tbis party J. L. Williamson of Seat tle Wash., did not hesitate to express it as bis private opinion that the mining iudustry hereabouts was on tbe verge of a real boom and he bases his expectations npon what he has heard from tbe lips of the raining men in those other regions. Mr. Williamson remarked to tbe Courier representative that he bad only recent 'y heard lacoessfnl and far seeing mining men at Goldfield discussing tbis saining section and that it seemed to be their undivided opinion that the next mining excite ment was going to occor right here in Southern Oregon. He says they have oomt to.this conclusion from actual ob servations and by making escalations whiob arc based npon real facts. They feel confidant that tbis district is lying within the belt which they find strstohes all along tbrongh the richest I of the camps. They have been study- lag the format ons and the general lay of tbe laud and they are willing to risk their reputation as successful mining men on making snch asser tions Ibis will be a great thing for the men who are delving into ihe bowels of the earth lor the precions metals, for it will afford them climate tbat has no snperier and very few equals. Mr. Wililamson took occasion to em phasize this fact and stated tbat no ordinary man could long survive the vary trying climate which they have in Goldfield. The mortality there is something awful to contemplate and were it not for the wonderfully rich ore that is to be had in snch great ahondunoe people would never re main to inhabit tbat section. As it is l.e says it is beyond all doubt the richest camp in all the world. The opinion of Mr. Williamson is beiug coincided iu by numerous min ing exerts who ooine tills way making catefol observatious of the properties which are here to lis fonnd. Of course all this sounds good for the minerals of the Rogue River Valley ate undoubtedly one of its greatest and best asaeta. ' SUMMONS.
