FRIDAY. APRIL 3fl, 1B07. THE EARTH'S CLIMACTERIC). When man reaches his sixty-third year it is called t he grand ellmaoterlo of his lite and is supposed to be a orltioal period in bis existence. If he gets oyer this period safely he can assure himself of going on through the balance of the alloted go of three score years and teu and gome more on top of that. At the time of the grand olimaoterlo, he will hare ' some serious siokneas and it is this that he baa to guard against Well, Old Mother Earth seems to hare reached a cliinacterlo period In her existence. Her body seems to be shakeu aad torn with pain and the Earth, if symptoms mean anything, Is evidently passing through a critical period of existence The first warn lug symptoms was the eruption of Ml. Pelce on the Island of Martiuhjae and since then there has been a con tinual snonesslcn of like eveuta. Mt. Vesuvius has had one of the hardest eruptions within the historical jHirlod. Thou came our own San Kranoisoo earthquake which for hor ror and general dostrtictivcness has not be exceeded ou the North American Continent. Soon after, Valparaiso was shaken to piinvs. Then the Island of Jamaica suffered from the growing or the dying pains, we don't know which, of Mother Earth. Ami (he lalt st prrsi ills patches are telling of earthquake shocks in Mexico, Chum anil the I Philippine Manila. Never before have the mighty forces of Naluri Isthmg of Panama should sink it would make startling economic ohangeg in our country. Make and unmake cities and produce climatic changes that woo Id be far-reaching in effect. A convulsion in this Caribbean region might be of suffi cient strength to change the course of the Oulf Stream and the life of Northern Europe and England hangs on the thread of the Gulf Stream. A thousand yearg ago or even a hiindrod for that matter, man would hare ascribed these convulsions as a pnishment laid on him for his wicked ness but we hare gone far enoogh now to know that they are nothing but the working out of Natural laws. GOING TO THE CIRCUS. The day of the circus is the day of joy to the small boy and all his tribe. The minute the first circus poster is posted np the small boy is strictly in evidence. His one aim of life is to earn foods to boy a ticket and so he goes around gathering up scrap iron to lull to the foundry man and he makes the druggist weary trying to sell Mm empty bottles. After the olroua 'has gone the small boy gets out in the back yard and proceeds to do the high dive act and get ready for circus of bis own. He sews gouny sacks together for tent, makes Fido do doty as lion and cages op the cat for tiger. He has a chum do a tumbling act and tries to rope in the neighborhood at the rate of Are pins a head. But the grown ups are not far behind. Sometimes a family will sell their cook store to get money for the tickets and a man has been known to bny a sack of flonr in one store on credit and then sell it to another for cash in order to satisfy his longing ambition to see the oircos. The secret of the attractiveness of the circus is Id ita uovelty. A oircns parade every day iu the year would get to be a pretty old thing and while a li.ilxiou may bo amusing to look at in a cage once every twelve was at first a mere ; it has grown to be SEWING MACHINE New Home Sewing Machine for sale at 1-50, new, never nsed.
