AN ART SCHOOL
;for grants pass
A Place Where Boye and Girle
Will Be Taught How
Draw From Life.
to
Grants Pass is to have the first Art
School in Southern Oregon and that it
is to be school of the first class is
a fact that will make it doubly valu
able. It is to be conducted by Prof.
Geo. O'Brien, an artist of considerable
reputation in eastern cities as a
painter of portraits and landscapes,
also as teacher, having bad classes
in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapo
lis. Thorough courses of instruction
will be given those who desire to ob
tain practical knowledge of drawing,
painting, designing, etc.
Classes will be formed later for
study In Industrial drawing, architec
ture and etc This opportunity that
is now to be given the people of
Southern Oregon is one that should be
given the greatest eooouragement as
there is no one who would not be
benefitted by having a knowledge of
drawing. The time has passed when
all who studied drawing were suppos
ed to become artists. Modern society
demands more artistic surroundings
than formerly and the opening for
remunerative employment in Design
ing for the practical arts are endless,
but they are only open to those who
have had some training in drawing.
It is the plan of the school to teach
all ages from 9 years np according to
their needs and price of lessons for
the smaller children will be so low
that no boy or girl should be denied
the chance to show what talent is
in them whether they have shown
any inclination in that direction or
not.
A cordial Invitation is extended to
all who are Interested in this work to
visit the studio, rcom 5, Masonic
Temple 9 to 13 a. m. except Saturdays
aod see the work and learn something
of the method of teaching.

See in the Oregon Observer of June
nth that Daisy makes the assertion
that Is gratifying to know that the
majority of men in the State think
well enough of their women Dot to
impose on them political burdens.
Perhaps Daisy thinks women's sphere
snouia not reach farther than their
own little fireside, but they should
shoulder the bigger part of the bar
dens at home. Do the rattling and
managing in the home and let the
men do the voting and sitting on the
street corners talking politics aod
cracking smutty jokes. For shame,
for shame.

RAISING DRAFT HORSES
Illinois Vallev Farmer Save That
Section Will Be Noted for Ite
Fine Draft Horsea.
John George, a veteran of the Sixth
Missouri cavalry, spent Monday and
Tuesday at the G. A. R. encampment
In this city, but he was unable to stay
for the entire week as he has a large
crop of alfalfa on his farm in the
Illinois Valley near Kerby that is now
so ripe as to require cutting. Mr.
George has 60 acres to alfalfa aod
grain. The alfalfa will be above an
average yield while the grain will be
rather below. The late long cold,
rainy spell prevented the grain from
making a good growth while the
heavy rains just suited the alfalfa.
Mr. George was formerly in the
cattle business, but he keeps only a
few cows for milk for family use, he
finding it more profitable to sell his
hay to the freighters who pass his
place on the Grants Pass and Waldo
road. Mr. George though has taken
np the raising of heavy draft borses
finding them the most profitable of all
stock. Many other of his neighbors
are taking op the breeding of draft
horses and Mr. George thinks that
within the next few years Illinois
Valley will be noted for its fine Per
cberon horses.
