The First Baptist church taiuingit contention ni me iuuuk People of the Rogii River Eapust Association, which embraces the Baptist churches of Josephine and Jackson cODQtie. This Is the nrst contention of its kind to be held in this Association and is the out growth of some sogiffstioHs which ware made to Roy K. llacsett wneu the association held its annual meet ing in Merlin last June. Since that time Mr. Hackett lias taken the ini tiative iu visiting the various ohnrches of the valley and stirring nn their interests. The result has! been that some ao or 40 delegates have come together from Ashland, Med ford and oth r points np the valley. A program lias been arranged dtiriug which there will be discossions of the varied places of Young Peoples' work. Pastors Baker of Ashlaud, Carstcns of Medford, and Travis of this City, Missionary Austin of the association will have places on the program as will also Miss Carrie O. Millspaogh of Portland, the State Seoretary of the Young People. It is hoped that by closer fellowship and more unified effort, larger work will be done in the surrounding dis tricts, where at present, no work is being attempted. Friday evening the deb gad s will be met at the train by a committee from the local society and enorlcd to the huie of J. D. Drake he.-e the church people have prepared sup per for all. He was kuown ai an industrious, upright youiiK man. of a retiring dm position hut of a cheerful, genial nature, which won for him the friend ship of tliose with whom he worked and associated. Always free from the evil tendencies, habits and appe tites too r inly found in youtis' men, he liv-d a blameless life throughout, and did much for the material welfare and comfort of his parents. A few- months previous to his death he was brought under un UfUal Christian influences and as a result was converted and became an attendant and expectant member of the 1'rrshyterian church. His last illness which was exceedingly pain ful, was h.irue with fortitude and he faced the probabilities, of deatli w ithout fear and with t lie assurance that it was well with din aoaL The end came at about midday, Septem ber lath. The funeral the Kethauy Presbyterian conducted by Rev. H. H. assisted by Rev. W. T. youug people especially ara cordially invited.
