J. ('lark. Her former name was Goff and she lived hero since Infancy. She waa loTed and respected by all who knew her. She leaves quite a family. Wo are having cloudy weather with a light sprinkle of rain. A good rain would do good at the present time, aa the upland la quite dry for plow ing. Grain and grasa also would be helped if we had a good rain. People are well along with their gardening. We fee a correspondent of the Courier states that alfalfa a two iie lit high. New building are going up in Le- land. Grants Pass is forgiug ahead of I.elaud, but Grants Pass is an older town. A reiimrkable fact of its construction is that the floors are of coucreto linislied with tile, no wood of any kind being used in their construction and all partitions and stairways are of fire proof material. All electric wires are in iron conduits embedded in the floor and partitions. The building covers an area of LH'.xTd feet, basement and four stories in height. It embodies simplicity in design and construction. The ex terior Is of gray pressed brick witli stone trimmings, the large front court giving ample light to the private rooms while giving the building a more homelike appearance. Au electric elevator is installed in tho building. The laundry equip, meut and drying rooms are of the latest improved machinery and most com plete, being operated by steam power. The basement aud one-half of the lirsc floor are used for administrative purpose) aud the rest of the building for private rooms, wards and operat ing rooms, making nccomuiodal inns for about 75 patients. The operating rooms have been erected with the greatest care ; one is in the form of an amphitheater, providing for about oue hundred cents; the other is a private operating room. Tho steriliz ing room, located between the two operating rocms, is thoroughly (nip ped with the latest und most approved apparatus. Tho solid porcelain fix tures in Ihe physicians' lavatory are so arranged that the water supply is controlled by foot pedals; a shower is also provided for in this room. The culinary department in the basement bus been mado very complete, the kitchen having direct access to a dumb-waiter leading to the diet kitchens on each floor, which latter are also thoroughly equipped for ser vice independent of the main kitchen. Cold filtered water can be drawn on each floor for drinking purpics. The heating and ventilating system is most complete in all its appoint ments, ample provisions having been inndu for introduction of fresh, warm air aud the exhiiu-ting of foul air from all the rooms The committee have spared neither pains nor luonev to inak" this building a model of its I kind, in honor of its founder, Miis' Frances K.
