Evclusive Walk-over Agents MININGCONGRESSSESSION Josephine's Exhibit Is a Centnr . of Attraction. Josephino county had by far the most prominent and most popular ex hibit of ores at the Mining Congress ut Portland. The exhibits were placed at the back of the armory with Joiejiehine county almost in the center in front of the gallery baloouy. The first thing to catch the eye of the visitors was the large painted sign "Ores of Josephine County, Oregon" at tho top of a series of steps which were arranged tho exhibits. Above this was a 6-foot picture of the Old Channel n.iuo and aleove this another largu picture of the same mine. Beneath were grouped ores from the following mines: Oncon of lirou.o, Elkhorn. Coin stock, Gold Mining Co., Oold King, Piatt's Mino, I.uoky Queen, Oro Kino, Cold Spring, Alameda, Hon e Htake, llaby, Greenback, Oold Ung, Kremer, W. K. Wright, Gold Stand ard, Oak Mine, Isaan it Miller, 8. A. Vance, Maid of the Mist, Ked Bean, O. h. Mauguni, Tellurium from tho Lewis fc Clark, Ilarth & Hon, Moun tain Lion, ClcoKttra Group, Hhaska & Itohiusnii. These samples were grouped very effectually nud attracted constant at tention. If any onu ore sample could he said to attract fhs most attention it was uinlouhtedly the IttX) pound chunk from the Greenback mine. Coming as it does from tho IKK) foot level of tho best paying mine In Ore gon, it proves to the mining man that the ledges do go down. The cam of gold nuggets, however, togi ther with the Ilrlggs gold, capped tho climax of attractions. There was a cninetant crowd around the runn ga.ing at the metal aud asking ii!ctioii ami it is safe to say that has done more to let the world know tnnt Josephine county produces gold than any amount of other kluds of ailvertisiug. We were able to "show" even the Mianouriaus tlibt we had gold. C. C. Illgglns, who, by tho way, is to be commend -d for his work in He- curing favorahls space at.d In arrang ing the exhibit for tho opening esainu of the cougresa, was on hand a gri'ater )wrt of tlie time to eiplaiu and talk about Josi'phiiie comity to tlie visit or. The other Jejsephlno county elehgates also talked for Southern Oregon. So popular was the Josephine county exhibit, that twice witin an hour during tlie Thurnlay forenoein progiaiii, the president was obliged to steip piocee-elings and announce tlmt l tin rongre-H was in session at the front of tlie ball and plenty of op IMirtiiuity would be given to see the exhibit.
