phone messages sent out from Grants

in the enforcement of the city laws

depositors to withdraw their money,
saying that the financial condition

Grants Pass received similar warnings.

the flowers aud shrubs of different
kinds are in bloom aud the furmers
are all busy plowing aud sowing grain,
and grubbing for nlfullu, which will
be sowu later in the season, and ir
rigated. The Lewman Bros, never
sow their scud till the Pith of May,
which brings good crops the first sea
son.
The Souson hop yard wlrrrti is run
by Lua Loesch is now under full
headway, plowing and grubbing dur
ing the good weather. Mr. L. is also
making preparations to start on his
uew yard which he will put out the
latter m rt of April. Ho has men nt
work grubbing, which will be com-
pletid luesday and be ready to set
out new plants in the additional yard.
I he Cook & Rexford yard, which
will be put out tins spring is too wet
to lurm yet, although they have the
poles cut and sots secured to plant as
soon as plowed. This yard contains
seven acres of flue black loam from
the Applegnto liver, which will make
hojis produce about 1000 ouuds ja r
acre. It is also irrigated from the
ilridgi point Ditch Comiuiiy's ditch,
which comes through above this yard.
Tho marble enterprise, is a good
thing to invest in. Tho coinininy
which is steadily oieratlng, la lining

they sold 104 monuments which
ranged from ir to 7,-., and since the
first of tho year they havn disposed of
dO, which was a larger sale than last
year. Josephlno county has 12 mi let
of this marble, which run he seen
from the surrounding valley. It
lays in grent crags, which are covered
with moss and ferns which have been
growing there throughout the ages of
time; some of the ninrble is red
.'loinled, while other is pure white
and some is black with red, white
and mixed colors which can discount
the Vermtftt marble in color und can
bo obtained at a much smaller figure,
as that which could bo had here for

that stutee. Tho Uraybm-s mountain
also contains marble iu ahum lance.
Tho Kxchequer iitiart mine at
Uiurel Grove, which is known
throughout Oregon and many other
stales of the union for its richnesi
and w idth, is owued by Dr. Flanagac
of Grants Puss and has been worked
for se veral years w ith good success.
Three years ago it was bonded to St.
Johu, who worked the proisrty with
skill to see if it was a ving proio
sition. It proved that it was valu
able, and the only draw ha, k was the
prion which St. John refused to lwv,
so tho niiue was soon shut down ami
the mnchiuery moved to Grants Pam
and shipped to Ft. Jones, C alifornia.
Tho Lew man Pros.' mine is exten
sively worked through the w inter and
lays idle during the summer. The
mine is known as the ' Isabolle ami
lays ou the head of Whiske y Gulch.

goes per ton. The brothers an'
running a tunnel to tap the ledge
which will be ruu this coming fall.
