In the balloting in both hous'-s this morning Corbett’s whole strength was shown tu be only 3G votes, while .Judge Bennett developed an unexpected strength of 24. M. C. George trailed along with 10 votes to his credit. The rest were scatteiing. The lobbyists are very active in oppo­ sition to Corbett, and took the latter's managers bv surprise with the strength thev had behind them. It is not only the anti-Corbett vot* s which count, but there are so many factions in the field that lhe result seems extremely doubt­ ful. It is conceded around the capilol to­ day that Corbett is a defeated man, but I no one man can be agreed upon to take his piace as a republican sound-money standard-bearer.
