CASH SYSTEM
Is becoming* more popular with the people every day. Why ? Because cash buys more and better goods for less
money than credit Credit houses will not quote prices in their advertisement, only as they are compelled to do
' — Cash houses lead in Prices. Styles, Quality and Variety
so by cash competitors.

SECOND PRIZE ESSAY
The ('ash System.
I,ct us consider tor a mu; :int, the difference between the.Cash
System and the Credit System.
The shrewd business man who stipulates that cash must be paid
for his goods, employs the former as a method of doing business, while
lie who does not so clearly understand the proper method in which to
conduct his business affairs, and will accept the promises of his custo-
niets as legal tender, employs the Credit System
The largest cash house in Southern Oregon, bv conducting their
business on the Cash System, receive the just equivalent of their goods.
They can, then, pay cash to the large whole sale bouses with whom
they trade. The »usinc's man who pavs c ish to these houses, is kntAvn
far and wide as a desirable customer. The drummers, or traveling
men. will offer special inducements in the was of large discounts to him,
and he is thus enabled to make his profits from the discounts, and give
his goods to his customers at almost wholesale prices, while the busi
ness man who is given "time," gets the highest price with no discount,
and his customer must pay the difference.
The man who does business on the Credit System, sees that the
great firm of R I.. Coe. Thomas & Co., by thei- perseverance and busi
ness tact are gaining in the race. To mark their goods as low. and
thus gain back their lost patronage the Credit House must buy an in
ferior article.
Some people ate blind enough to trade at a place where they can
get credit, simple because tliev "haven t the change," " hat a diff>-r-
t-nce it would make if tin v would only wait until they did have "the
change.’' and then buy go.<.s of R. 1. Coe. Thomas
Co., that would
last them twice as long
A family that makes a practice of having goods charged to their
account are apt to become estravag.int, ami buy much more than tbev
would otherwise. You can re.u'ilv .<e what would arise from this.
The constant thought that a bill will soon be due, breeds discontent and
nnhappine*s in the Lome, and w i:eu the time lor the bill expires, they
may have nothing with which to meet it. Ca*.s of crime because of
financial difficulties arc not uncommon
