Events
Football camps
open to all ages
Warrenton High School’s
football program is offer-
ing youth summer football
camps.
The no-contact camps focus
on individual and team skills
throughout the week. Camp-
ers will work with the entire
WHS coaching staff as well as
many WHS football players.
“The program is coming off
one of the very best seasons
in WHS history,” Athletic Di-
rector Ian O’Brien said. “We
want your kids to be a part of
our culture.”
• Grades K-4 Camp: 3:30 to
5 p.m. June 13-16
• Grades 5-8 Camp: 4 to 6
p.m. June 20-23
Both camps are $40 per
participant and will be held
at the WHS football field,
1700 S. Main Ave.
Scholarships are available if
needed by contacting Coach
O’Brien at obrieni@warren-

Flag retirement
set for June 14
Astoria Chapter Daughters
of the American Revolution
will hold a flag retirement at
1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at
Fort Stevens Historic Park.
Those who have American
flags in need of retirement
can drop them off ahead of
time at City Lumber, 2142
Commercial St., Astoria, or
contact any chapter member
or Regent Sue Glen at 503-
861-0574.
The flag retirement is open
to the public.
State offers free
park fishing, entry
Saturday, June 4, is State
Parks Day and the Oregon
Parks and Recreation De-
partment is waiving day-use
parking fees at Fort Stevens
and at the 25 other state
parks that charge them.
Fees for tent, RV and horse
campsites also will be waived.
June 4-5 is also free fishing
weekend. Visitors can fish at
Fort Sevens without a fish or
shellfish license.
Those who’d like to learn
how to clam can meet up with
a park ranger at 9 a.m. Satur-
day, June 4, at the Peter Ire-
dale Shipwreck. Participants
will learn more about razor
clams and the best tech-
niques for digging a limit.
State Parks Day has been
a tradition since 1998. This
year’s celebration falls during
the 100th anniversary of the
state parks system.
College news
Several local students were
named to the dean’s list for
the 2022 winter term at East-
ern Oregon University in La
Grande.
Qualifying students achieve
and maintain a grade-point
average of 3.5 or higher while
completing a minimum of 12
hours of graded coursework.
Those on the list: Alex-
ander Gee and Michelle
Gomes of Astoria; Kyle
Harrington of Gearhart;
and Hillary Dochow and
Victoria Dochow of Sea-
side.
