Rough but sandy landing
Grant to provide drug abuse treatment
Money made available
through Measure 110, which
reduced penalties for pos-
sessing small quantities of
drugs, will benefit those
needing treatment in Clatsop
County.
A sailboat ran ashore at Fort Stevens State Park after its
captain lost control in windy, choppy seas last week.
The operator abandoned ship just north of the Peter
Iredale Shipwreck and was trying to swim ashore shortly
after noon on May 5. He was rescued by crews aboard a
U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from Astoria and boat from
Cape Disappointment. The captain received medical
treatment and the sailboat was removed by Fort Stevens
State Park.
