8 The Columbia Press March 18, 2022 Hazardous waste day is Saturday The Household Hazardous Waste collection center will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the county’s new facility at 1780 Williamsport Road, next to the Recology Western Ore- gon Waste transfer station. The center is the result of several years of collabora- tion between Clatsop County, Recology, local cities, com- munity organizations and the Oregon Department of Envi- ronmental Quality. The facility provides a means for proper disposal of hazardous toxic wastes, including paint, fluores- cent lights and light ballasts, cleaners, propane tanks, her- bicides, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, fertilizers, aerosols, pesticides, batteries, and compressed gas cylinders. Fire Department plans open house Warrenton Fire Depart- ment hosts an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat- urday, March 19, at the main fire station, 225 S. Main Ave. The agency plans to an- nounce its new Emergency Medical Services Division, primarily for those interested in working as a medic or oth- er health worker. The public is invited to meet some of the current mem- bers and get information about how to sign up. Medi- cal training will be provided by the department. There also will be a physical ability demonstration. Ninety percent of the fire department’s emergency calls last year were medically related.
