Abel www.corkeycomics.com More than 20 active breakouts, health officer says The Columbia Press The governor issued tough- er mask mandates this week and two more Clatsop County residents have died recently from COVID-19. The two new cases involve a 95-year-old woman who died at her home in Seaside on Aug. 22 and a 52-year-old man who died Aug. 19 at Leg- acy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. The cases bring Clatsop County’s death toll to 13 as of Wednesday. The Delta variant is creating a significant strain on hospi- tals and staff throughout the state and locally. Clatsop County health of- ficer Margo Lalich told Clat- sop County commissioners on Wednesday that there are more than 20 active out- breaks in the county. “We’re focusing on the most vulnerable populations right now,” she said. A permanent testing site, along with a vaccination clin- ic, will open soon at Camp Rilea through a cooperative arrangement with Provi- dence Seaside and Columbia Memorial hospitals. In 1969, she married her husband, Tom, who was born and raised in Clatsop County, and the cou- ple moved here in 1987. During her 18 years with the college, she worked with businesses and agencies that needed employee training and earned a workforce train- ing certificate in 1998. The couple also operated a horse boarding facility in Miles Crossing. Her husband died in 2019.
