The Columbia Press 8 Artists sought for ‘extinct’ show Endangered and extinct plants and animals will be fea- tured in an exhibit through- out the month of September at Astoria Art Loft. Each year, the gallery spon- sors a judged exhibit featur- ing endangered plants, ani- mals, birds, fish, and insects. This year, a slightly broader theme was chosen, “Extinct and Endangered Plants and Animals.” Plants includes all species of plant life and animals in- cludes all creatures that are not plants. All artists -- children and adults -- are invited to par- ticipate. Artwork can be two- or three-dimensional and should be professionally pre- sented and ready to display. Each artist can enter two pieces. Two-dimensional art should be no larger than 660 square inches. Artwork should be deliv- ered between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aug. 25, 26, or 27 to As- toria Art Loft, 106 Third St., Astoria. Entry fee is $10 per entry or $15 for two entries. The exhibit can be viewed Sept. 3-30. Winning pieces will be an- nounced Sept. 11, during the Second Saturday Art Walk. August 20, 2021 Clatsop College receives funds for computers Clatsop Community Col- lege is one of 61 libraries, museums and nonprof- it groups to win an award tied to the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The college will receive $19,800 to buy laptops, handicapped-accessible workstations and special- ized computers to meet stu- dent demand and provide equitable access to technol- ogy. State Library of Oregon received nearly $3 mil- lion from ARPA to provide grants to help agencies ad- dress needs arising from the pandemic and to help en- sure everyone has equal ac- cess to technology. Other projects include: Vernonia Public Library will use its $15,176 grant to upgrade public computers and Wi-Fi and to purchase technology to help with com- munity presentations and meetings. St. Helens Public Library will receive $5,390 to up- date handicapped-accessi- ble equipment and purchase software to facilitate confer- ences, webinars and online meetings. District will use its $15,400 to create an outdoor area for community members and homeless people to charge devices and use Wi-Fi out- side of regular hours. Rainier City Library will use its $9,698 grant to in- crease internet access in the community and to establish a lending library at a senior apartment complex. The Oregon Historical So- ciety will use its $150,000 to redesign the state’s digi- tal history tools, such as the Oregon History Project, Or- egon History Wayfinder and the Oregon TimeWeb. County groups win state funds Several Clatsop County groups will receive summer enrichment grants from Ore- gon Community Foundation. The city of Astoria’s sum- mer program for children in kindergarten through high school will receive $40,000. Haystack Rock Awareness Program’s summer program- ming for children will receive $15,200, which will help the city of Cannon Beach provide transportation, materials and other expenses for school children. Columbia River Maritime Museum will receive $20,105 for its K-12 summer pro- gramming. Sunset Park & Recreation Foundation in Seaside will receive $50,000 for K-12 summer programming. Tumblewheel Studios in Scappose will receive $20,000 to support the cre- ation of a mural as part of summer programming. Ultimook, a children’s pro- gram in Tillamook, will re- ceive $70,800. OCF is handing out $41.2 million in state funds through- out Oregon’s 36 counties.
