The company’s plans will be dis- cussed at a Warrenton Planning Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Warrenton City Hall. The company first met with city of- ficials in January and submitted its site design in June. Roby’s was founded in 1950 and the family-owned business has grown into the state’s largest furniture/ appliance/mattress chain with six stores in Oregon: Tillamook, Lincoln City, Newport, Florence, McMinn- ville, and Astoria. The new furniture store would be built on 14 acres of property zoned for commercial development. Devel- opers propose 44 parking spaces, a landscaped area and a lot-line ad- justment to include a small nearby parcel. And, just a few days in, it seems to be living up to expectations. “The Super Bowl of salmon fishing has kicked off,” fishing guide Cody Herman said in a podcast after a successful open- ing day. “This is probably the best open- er I’ve ever seen.” His boat had more than 30 bites and landed 20 fish, although half of them were jacks – too small to keep.
