The event will be in the concert area of the fair- grounds, 92937 Walluski Loop, Astoria. There is no entry fee for vehicle owners or specta- tors. An opera and a comedy “The Old Maid and the Thief,” a comedic opera, will be performed three times this weekend: 7 p.m. Friday, July 30, and at 4 p.m. Sun- day, Aug. 1. All performances are at the Charlene Larsen Cen- ter for the Performing arts, 588 16th St., Astoria. Performances are limited to the first 100 audience members. The production is by Casca- dia Chamber Opera and stars Ann Bronson, ChrisLynn Taylor, Bereniece Jones-Cen- teno, and Elias Hesse. It is directed by Greg Hop- per-Moore with conductor Vincent Centeno, and Paul Brady at the piano. Tickets are $16 per person, with those age 9 and younger free, and are available online at partnersforthepac.org. Dance group pumps up libraries Sparrow Dance Company will perform at locations in Warrenton, Seaside and As- toria on Thursday, Aug. 5. Their workshop, “Dance Dance Freeze,” is spon- sored by libraries in all three towns as part of their coordinated summer read- ing program. The troupe will present eight different forms of dances from around the world during the free hour- long performances. Audiences can participate in creative movement activi- ties with the nonprofit group, which is based in Astoria. Performances are at 10:30 a.m. at Warrenton Commu- nity Library, 160 S. Main Ave.; 1 p.m. at the Seaside Public Library, 1131 Broad- way; and at 3:30 p.m. at the Garden of Surging Waves, on Duane Street between 11th and 12th streets. Trolley back in operation after hiatus Astoria Riverfront Trolley has returned to the water- front. After a 16-month hiatus, the trolley reopened July 23 and is making its way along the tracks from noon to 6 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sun- days. More hours will be added once new volunteers can be found and certified for a full seven-day schedule. If the trolley is out at oth- er times, it’s for the training and recertifying of the motor crew and will be unable to take passengers. Riders will make option- al payments in a donation box.
