March 19, 2021 Letter to the editor Consider participating in the local VFW The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Stevens Post 10580, seeks veterans to be- come members of our post. If you have ever served in the U.S. military outside of the United States, you are welcome to join. We need men and women who still carry that flame of patriotism and feeling of wanting to help honor our present military and those who never came home. The COVID-19 virus has slowed and reduced our membership. More families working and living together, some with two jobs, does not allow much time for outside interests. Still, I am asking veterans to come aboard and share a commitment. Although our meetings are held mainly through the elec- tronic world of Zoom, our post can still hold on-site meetings at the same time. It’s the member’s choice. When possible, the post hosts Red Cross drives, fund- raisers, ceremonies honoring lost comrades, and the as- sembling of gift packets for children and senior residing in local care centers.
