Portland was cited for criminal
failure to carry and present a
license and for failure to obey
a traffic-control device, driving
while suspended and having no
insurance.
• Van into tree, 3:30 p.m. July
26, Highway 101 at Alternate
Highway 101. Driver cited for
driving while suspended and
having no insurance. The driver,
a 41-year-old Astoria woman,
was taken to Columbia Memo-
rial Hospital for treatment of
injuries.
• Four-vehicle hit-and-run,
12:11 p.m. July 27, Youngs Bay
Bridge between round-about and
Marlin Avenue. Three drivers
reported a large red “lifted” truck
side-swiped their vehicles and
continued driving.
• Two-vehicle collision, no inju-
ries, 6:46 p.m. July 27, Wendy’s
drive-through.

• Dog bite, 6:25 p.m. July 28,
Fort Stevens State Park.
Teen faces murder charges after
driving through party crowd
A teenager faces murder
and other charges after he al-
legedly drove through a crowd
at a party, killing a Rainier
man and injuring several oth-
er people, the Clatsop County
Sheriff’s Office reported.
The crime occurred about
4 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at
the Hunt Creek Rock pit off
Highway 30 near Westport.
There had been a large
gathering at the rock pit and
the juvenile drove through
the crowd as he left the area,
according to the Sheriff’s
Office. He did not stop after
striking several people.
Three people were serious-
ly injured by the vehicle and
Robert Betschart, 23, was
killed.
The county’s Major Crimes
Team was activated and, af-
ter an investigation, they ar-
rested Kyle Snook, a juvenile
from Rainier.
He was charged with sec-
ond-degree murder, first-de-
gree
manslaughter,
five
counts of felony vehicular
assault and driving under the
influence of intoxicants.
The teen was booked at
Cowlitz County Detention
Facility.
Investigators are asking
that anyone who attended
the gathering, even if they left
prior to the crime or police
arrival, call Detective Justin
