Walmart. Bryon Earl Freniere,
37, of Astoria was cited for
second-degree theft and crim-
inal mischief after he allegedly
attempted to leave the store with
$511 in merchandise, including
a hoverboard, clothes, watches
and candy. He also was cited for
allegedly leaving the store with
$148 in merchandise during a
shopping trip two days earlier.
• Shoplifting, 1 p.m. May 1,
Walmart. Christine K. Cook, 28,
of Rosburg, Wash., was cited for
second-degree theft after she
allegedly attempted to leave the
store without paying for $234 in
merchandise, including dog, cat
and chicken food, and dog toys.
• Burglary, 4:44 p.m. May 3,
0-100 block Northeast Heron
Avenue. A business owner re-
ported someone kicked in a door
to gain entry.
• Shoplifting, 5 p.m. May 3,
Walmart. Erin Michelle Wil-
liams, 38, of Portland was cited
for third-degree theft, criminal
mischief and criminal trespass-
ing after she allegedly attempted
to leave the store without paying
for $50 in merchandise that
included an airbed, sheets, pens
and a soda.

fisherman Steven D. Telen, 51,
of Astoria was cited for criminal
failure to sell to a wholesale fish
dealer after he allegedly kept

A 32-year-old Vancouver wom-
an and a 1-year-old boy were
hospitalized after the car they
were in rear-ended a vehicle
stopped in traffic, Oregon State
Police reported.
• Traffic stop, 12:19 a.m. May
2, South Main Avenue at Fifth
Street. Scott A. McKinnon, 41, of
Warrenton was cited for crimi-
nal failure to carry and present a
license, driving while suspended
and having no insurance.
• Prohibited parking, noon May
2, Southwest Second Street at
Birch Court. Driver cited.
• Single-vehicle rollover, 10:39
p.m. May 2, Highway 202, 6.5
miles from Astoria. A 17-year-
old boy was injured when he
failed to negotiate a curve and
his Toyota Tacoma went down
an embankment and rolled sev-
eral times before stopping, OSP
reported.
• Vehicle into ditch, one injury,
7:56 p.m. May 3, Highway 26
at Saddle Mountain turnoff. A
64-year-old woman was injured
when she swerved to avoid an
animal in the road, struck a road
sign and crashed into a ditch,
OSP reported. She was taken to
Providence Seaside Hospital for
an evaluation.

Letter to the editor
City should give
building to VFW
After reading the May 1 issue
of the Columbia Press, I am
truly shocked the Warrenton
City Council is trying to sell
the old Hammond Library to
the VFW for $90,000.
The city can’t show favor-
itism and give away taxpay-
er-owned assets?
I’ve lived in several states
and have worked on veterans
projects and can’t believe I
read that. Most cities support
their veterans and try to work
with them. The city can do
anything the voters instruct
them to do.
I certainly won’t be sup-
porting any elected official
who has that kind of attitude.
I suggest Hammond and the
rest of Warrenton voters
honor veterans and not allow
the squeezing of every last
penny from the VFW over a
dilapidated building.
