They saun- tered over to the spectator end of the team bench and sat down. What rectified the sit- uation, though, was that the Warriors’ bench came through like knights in shin- ing armor, helping rout the visiting Colton Vikings 44- 30. “Tonight was a great op- portunity for the guys in our program to step into new roles and get out of their comfort zone,” Coach Nate McBride said. “We were without three regular play- ers and, as a result, we had others play their first signifi- cant minutes of the season.” While Hordie Boden Boden made just 3 points in the game, he masterfully filled in as point guard. Hunter Xochipiltecatl, a freshman, contributed 10 points to the Warrenton cause. Dawson Little came The Warrenton girls wres- tling team traveled last Fri- day and Saturday to one of the largest girls wrestling tournaments in the nation, the Kelso High School Tour- nament. Nearly 800 girls compet- ed in the two-day event with each bracket boasting 45 to 77 wrestlers. Tournaments like this are a valuable wrestling experience and a pretty cool life experi- ence, too. The Warriors finished 51 out of 102 Washington and Oregon schools. All of the girls battled and we had some big wins across the lineup. Jade Vollner went 5-2 and took seventh place. There also was confu- sion over limitations on the amount of commercial versus residential acreage in the area, Yuill said. It previously had been zoned residential and the city approved a zone change last year allowing businesses along with the housing. “For commercial mixed- use, we’re a textbook place for (that),” Yuill said. “But we don’t want it to become a gold rush with first-come, first- served and everybody else los- Project area es out.” Commissioner Mark Bald- win proposed moving the hearing to Jan. 28. “Any gray area, I want to clean it up and make it clear,” Baldwin said. “We’re never going to please everybody in the entire city with our deci- sions, but if we do our due dil- igence and do our best, that’s all we can do.” There also was some confu- sion about giving the project area a name, as Spur 104 isn’t very glamorous. Community Development Director Kevin Cronin re- ferred to the area as High- lands Parkway in a staff re- port.
