Steve Eberlein’s experience
during the Sri Lanka tsuna-
mi in 2004 inspired a career
focused on promoting pre-
paredness in the Northwest,
developing over a decade
while working for the Red
Cross in Oregon.
In 2016 he published “Pre-
pare Out Loud,” a community
preparedness program aimed
at building resilience after a
9.0-magnitude Cascadia Sub-
duction Zone earthquake.
Eberlein’s goal is to bring
the region to the tipping
point where earthquake pre-
paredness becomes normal,
expected and cultural.

she attempted to leave the store
without paying for $25 in base-
ball cards.
• Theft of trailer equipment, 8:59
a.m. Nov. 14, Bayshore Ani-
mal Hospital. Someone stole a
5-gallon propane tank and two
camper batteries from a trailer.

was cited for second-degree theft
after he allegedly attempted to
leave the store without paying
for $137 in flashlights and bat-
teries.

east Marlin Avenue. Someone
stole a trailer battery valued at
$120.
• Fraud, 3:38 p.m. Nov. 15, 1100
block Northwest Warrenton
Drive. A 69-year-old man told
police he’d been scammed by
someone who told him he had
fraudulent charges on his PayPal
account and he needed to pro-
vide information and money to
clear up the case. He lost $249.
• Shoplifting, 6:50 p.m. Nov.
15, Walmart. Trinidy James
Richardson, 41, of Astoria was
cited for third-degree theft
and criminal mischief after he
allegedly attempted to leave the
store without paying for $20 in
jewelry.
• Shoplifting, 2:18 p.m. Nov. 16,
Walmart. Brandon Anthony
Beal, 38, of Seaside was cited for
third-degree theft and criminal
mischief after he allegedly at-
tempted to leave the store without
paying for $28 in jewelry, flash-
lights, glue and whipped cream.
• Shoplifting, 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18,
Walmart. Logan Todd Rowden,
23, of Hammond was cited
for third-degree theft after he
allegedly attempted to leave the
store without paying for $66 in
food.
• Shoplifting, 8:58 p.m. Nov. 18,
Walmart. Stacy Lynn Schwarzer,
42, of Longview, Wash., was
cited for second-degree theft
and criminal mischief after she
allegedly attempted to leave the
store without paying for $167
in electronics and clothes. An
alleged accomplice ran from the
store and was not apprehended.

were not known.
