The 36th Great Columbia
Crossing is Sunday, mark-
ing the only time pedestrians
are allowed across the Asto-
ria-Megler Bridge.
This year will be a bit differ-
ent as the entire bridge will
close to vehicles from 8:30
to 11 a.m. to improve security
for runners.
The 10-kilometer run/walk
begins at Dismal Nitch Rest
Area on the Washington side
and ends at the Port of Astoria.
“We encourage residents of
the area to plan for this and
schedule trips over the bridge
before or after the event, or
on another day,” the Asto-
ria-Warrenton Chamber of
Commerce wrote in a press
release.
“Be creative and make this
a positive experience. For ex-
ample, a church with mem-
bers coming in advance of the
bridge closure might want to
plan a breakfast before the
service. Offer ‘stranded trav-
elers’ something extra to do
that morning by opening ear-
ly, granting a late checkout
time, or offering a special deal
to invite them in your doors.”
Nutcracker ticket sales start Monday
Tickets go on sale Monday
for the 44th season of the
Little Ballet Theatre’s “Nut-
cracker.”
“Nutcracker” includes a cast
of 80 dancers, a 55-piece or-
chestra conducted by Cory
Pedersen, and a 12-voice choir.
The performance is suitable
for all ages. Guest artists Eliz-
abeth Barretto and Andrew
Taft, principal dancers from
Boise-based Ballet Idaho, will
appear through the courte-
sy of Garrett Anderson, the
group’s artistic director.
Performances, which are in
the Astoria High School Audi-
torium, are at 2 p.m. and 7:30
p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and at
2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

able online through the Lib-
erty Theatre website and at
the Liberty Theatre box office.
