Technology to ease fish, game licensing process
A new modernized licensing
system is on the way for hunt-
ers and anglers in 2019.
Oregon Department of Fish
and Wildlife will launch a new
electronic licensing system
Dec. 1 when 2019 licenses and
tags go on sale.
With the new system, hunt-
ers and anglers can choose to
carry their documents elec-
tronically (on their smart
phone or tablet) and tag fish
and wildlife with a mobile
app that will work even of-
fline.
Customers still can use pa-
per documents, but they’ll be
able to print licenses and tags

Anglers and hunters also
have the option of purchasing
licenses and tags at agents,
such as Fred Meyer, Big 5
Sporting Goods and Main
Street Market, but no special
paper or computer equip-
ment will be needed by the
businesses.
The new system is expected
to save $2 million annually,
thanks to the elimination of
specialty paper and computer
equipment and overall lower
system costs.
“Customers have been ask-
ing for the ability to carry tags
on their mobile phones and
for a more mobile-friendly
system,” said Curt Melcher,
ODFW director.
“We’re pleased this new
system will bring both cost
savings and an improved cus-
tomer experience for Oregon’s
hunters and anglers.”
