Symphony presents pops concert with 100 musicians
Columbia River Sympho-
ny presents a summer pops
concert Saturday with the
Beacock Music, Concert,
Stage and Swing Band from
Vancouver, Wash.
The concert will be at 7
p.m. Aug. 11 in the auditori-
um at Astoria High School,
1001 W. Marine Drive.
The concert is part of Asto-
ria Regatta.
Admission is free and fami-
lies are encouraged.
More than 100 musicians
from Oregon and Wash-
ington will come together
through the two groups.

Schools, conducts Columbia
River Symphony. His broth-
er, Cary Pederson, conducts
the Beacock Music Band.
Blooms take the
stage at museum
A rose-planting, complete
with a color guard and cere-
mony, will be held at 9 a.m.
Saturday at Lighthouse Park.
The Portland Royal Ro-
sarians have selected variet-
ies for the small park at the
four-way stop and across
from Warrenton Post Office.
Admission is free and some
seating will be available.

Astoria Regatta, which cel-
ebrates all things nautical,
includes:

• Highwater Boat Pa-

p.m. Saturday and Sunday,
Astoria Yach Club at the
West Mooring Basin.
Astoria park is site of free family movie nights
Astoria Parks and Recreation
Department has organized
three free family movies in the
park.
The annual tradition pro-
vides an opportunity to expe-
rience cinematic magic in an
outdoor setting.
Movies are on Wednesdays
and begin at dusk in Fred
Lindstrom Memorial Park,
Sixth and Niagara streets.
Last Wednesday, partici-
pants saw “A Wrinkle in Time,”
sponsored by Arbor Care.
Future movies are:
Aug. 15, “Peter Rabbit,”
sponsored by Clatsop Power
Equipment, Gimre’s Shoes,
Aquafina and Astoria Mini
Mart.
Aug. 22, “Coco,” sponsored
by Recology.
The movies are projected
onto a giant inflatable screen
after sundown, approxi-
mately 8:30 p.m. Moviego-
ers should bring a blanket or
low-back chairs.
Arrive early to grab a great
seat, as the park fills up with
an average attendance of 200
to 400 per event.
