The probable source has
been identified by various re-
searchers as either a Chinese
or Japanese junk, a Spanish
galleon, a Portuguese trader or
a lost English or Dutch pirate
vessel. Recent investigations
have determined the ship was
likely the Santo Cristo de Bur-
gos, a 17th-century galleon in-
volved in the Manila Trade.

has public potluck
Astoria Rescue Mission’s
annual potluck picnic will
be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July
14, at Mission Christian
Fellowship, 525 N.W. War-
renton Dr., Warrenton.
Participants should bring
a potluck dish to share.
There will be games, food
and fun, organizers said.

Bergman time
An Ingmar Bergman film
festival, sponsored by Vasa
Order of America Astor
Lodge and Pioneer Presby-
terian Church, begins at 4
p.m. Saturday, July 14, at
the church off Highway 101
at the Camp Rilea exit.
The first film is “Fanny and
Alexander” and participants
get to enjoy cake and ice
cream in honor of the famed
director, who was born in
Sweden on July 14, 1918. The
movie won four Academy
Awards in 1984.
A vision of death from “The
Seventh Seal.”
Other movies in the series
are “Wild Strawberries” on
July 21. A Swedish strawber-
ry dessert will be served.
“The Seventh Seal” will be
shown July 28 and served
with Swedish cookies and
sweet breads.
All shows are at 4 p.m.

for all three movies and can
