Kujala will be sworn in
during the Board of Com-
missioners’ first meeting in
January, along with Lianne
Thompson, who retained her
District 5 seat with 59 percent
of the vote, and whoever wins
the District 3 seat after No-
vember’s run-off between Pa-
mela Wev and Peter Roscoe.
When Kujala stepped down
from the mayor’s post in 2017,
he said he needed to spend
more time with his family and
business.
“I really enjoyed being may-
or,” he said. But he took on a
lot. There were weekly public
coffees, a weekly column in
The Columbia Press, work on
city, county and state commit-
tees, a new baby.
“There came a point when I
had to step away,” he said.
Joining the Board of Com-
missioners race was a decision
he and his wife made together.
Election results
About 36 percent of the coun-
ty’s 26,815 registered voters
turned out for the May 15 election.
