All four ultimately received
approval.
Jetty Apartments is in the
preliminary stage and owner
Jason Palmberg told commis-
sioners he wanted approval
for his site design and condi-
tional use of the property for
multi-family housing before
moving forward.
“There’s a point where you
can’t spend all this mon-
ey without knowing where
you (stand),” Commission-
er Chris Hayward said. “It’s
a great piece of commercial
property right on 101, but
housing is also needed.”
The project is within walk-
ing distance of both Fred
Meyer and Walmart, which
is nearing completion in the
North Coast Business Park.
Several work crews are
busy this week installing
Walmart’s façade and making
improvements to the parking
lot and landscaping.
Planning commissioners ex-
pressed concern that a wall
designed to block views of the
store’s freight area from driv-
ers on Highway 101 had been
forgotten by builders. City
staff members said they’d re-
view the project and contact
the company to ensure it gets
built.
In addition to the construc-
tion jobs created by Walmart,
the company plans to hire
250 to 300 employees to op-
erate the store, set to open in
the fall.
In Youngs Bay Plaza, Nat-
ural Grocers is preparing to
open its 21,800-square-foot
grocery store in March. Em-
ployee interviews began last
month.
