Library levy
deserves yes vote
Ballots have been mailed
and Warrenton voters have
a choice to support their lo-
cal library by voting ‘yes’ on
Measure 4-189, or, let the li-
brary close for good.
The building in Hammond,
where the library had previ-
ously been located was in dire
straits. The library outgrew
the building, services were
limited and it could not main-
tain a level of quality without
additional funding.
Over the summer, the li-
brary made a significant move
to a larger, more centrally lo-
cated building near City Hall.
Since its move, membership
has increased and so has
computer usage.
A library is a central corner-
stone of any healthy commu-
nity. It supports a range of re-
sources for learning. It plays
a vibrant role in the develop-
ment of a culture by promot-
ing reading, and it provides
the essential qualities in mak-
ing readers for life.
Warrenton is growing by
population and economics.
Increased population equals
more demands on our local
library and its staff.
Passage of Measure 4-189
will increase Saturday and
evening library hours, provide
more children’s programs
and add adult programs. It
will allow an increase in staff
to accommodate the extended
hours and influx of visitors.
And it will allow the library to
become more efficient with a
digital book checkout system
and e-books, bringing the li-
brary into the 21st century.

“yes” vote will do for Warren-
ton Community Library, go
