films in lineup
Astoria International Film
Festival runs all weekend
with 10 films by interna-
tional and U.S. independent
filmmakers.
All movies will be shown
in the Liberty Theater. Cost
is $5 per movie or $80 for
them all. Tickets can be pur-
chased online at www.liber-

Rescue Mission
harvest banquet
It’s described as an inti-
mate film festival where one
can view, learn about, and
discuss documentary, dra-
matic and short films.
Astoria Rescue Mission’s
Harvest Banquet and Auc-
tion is set for 3 p.m. Sat-
urday, Oct. 21, at Gateway
Community Church, 796
Pacific Drive in Ham-
mond.
Admission is free.
Donated items will be auc-
tioned off to raise money to
support ARM’s programs.
Chills: Events from bats to talking tombstones

The haunted house is from
6 to 9 p.m. at Sunset Pool,
1140 Broadway, Seaside.
Admission is $2 per person
or two cans of food. Those
younger than 3 are free.
Donations go to the South
County Food Bank. Admis-
sion paid at either event is
good for both.
• Bats, Spiders and
Owls, Oh My! is the place
to learn fascinating facts
about our region’s night crea-
tures. The free event at Fort
Clatsop includes crafts, pup-
pets, non-spooky stories (in-
cluding one in Spanish) and
a quarter-mile walk through
the forest.
The event is from 5 to 6:30
p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. Partic-
ipants should bring a flash-
light, wear sturdy shoes and
dress for the weather. Will be
held indoors in case of rain.
Meet in the park’s visitor
center.
• Talking Tombstones
is Clatsop County Historical
Society’s annual event held
at a local cemetery. This year,
it’s co-sponsored by Astoria
Granite Works and will take
place at Greenwood Cem-
etery, 91569 Highway 202,
Astoria.
Talking Tombstones has
actors portraying the area’s
colorful former figures and
talking to visitors from be-
yond the grave.
It’s from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday,
Oct.29. The event is free, al-
though donations are accept-
ed. Visitors should arrive no
later than 3 p.m.
